Culinary (Drinking) Water

Lindon's drinking water originates from springs east of the City and wells located throughout the City.

Lindon City conducts regular testing on culinary water and chlorine is added in small amounts to ensure safe, clean drinking water.

If there is ever a problem with culinary water quality that might impact health or safety, Lindon City will attempt to notify residents through multiple channels. To sign up for emergency notifications click here.

Lindon City is partnering with AquaTrax to bring our water customers a free, easy and convenient way to monitor the CULINARY and SECONDARY (IRRIGATION) water usage online, anywhere at any time! When customers use the City’s free AquaTrax online tool, customers will be able to:

Conveniently monitor historical water usage in hourly, daily and by billing period.
Set up culinary water use budget based on how many people live in the house.
Set up secondary water use budget based on lawn square footage area.
Receive leak alerts.
Actively save water and money.

Secondary Water

Lindon City has a pressurized irrigation, or secondary water system which provides irrigation water to most of the city. Water is supplied by North Union Irrigation Company, Central Utah Water Conservancy District (CUWCD), Hollow Water Irrigation Company, Cobbley Ditch Irrigation Company and the Salt Lake Aqueduct to Lindon reservoirs during the summer months. This water is screened but not filtered, and as such is not suitable as drinking water. Make sure children do not drink this water. It is only meant to be used for outdoor watering such as landscape and lawns.

The system is available from approximately, the end of April to mid-October.
The service is billed year-round to avoid spikes in summertime water bills

Outdoor Watering Hours

Please remember the city policy is no outdoor watering between the hours of 10:00 am to 6:00 pm.

Studies have shown that 50% of water used during daytime hours is lost to evaporation. Watering on every 3^rd day schedule is generally adequate for well-established lawns. Please remember to turn off automatic sprinklers when it is raining.

Turning on Secondary Water

The City will start filling the secondary water system in mid-April. This process usually takes a couple of weeks and water is usually available around the first of May. Here are some recommendations for getting ready for your secondary water.

Make sure your valve was turned off at the end of the last season.
Slowly open your valve and check for leaks and broken pipes. (Pipes can freeze and break during winter months.)

As this 2023 irrigation season comes to a close, we want to pass along some general guidelines for protecting your sprinkler system.

Best Practices for Winterizing your Secondary System

When the system shuts down, drain your sprinkler lines. Around mid-November turn off your system and close the valve in your service box. This gives a couple of weeks for the water in the main lines to drain.
Check and clean filter if needed. Leave your filter on.
It is the responsibility of residents to shut their secondary water valves to avoid flooding that may occur in the spring when the system is turned on.

Warning: The secondary water is untreated water from canals, ditches and springs. DO NOT DRINK from a secondary water connection, and do not connect the secondary system to the culinary water system in any way. Cross-connections have the potential to contaminate your home drinking water and the city’s culinary water system! REPORT ANY CROSS-CONNECTIONS YOU OBSERVE so that we can keep our drinking water safe.

Water Supply

We get a lot of questions about our irrigation water supply and how development in the City affects our supply. To help explain the issue, Please the graphic below. We hope that this helps explain where our water comes from and how the City balances limited water with the demands of rapid growth. Retail Water Line Disclosure

The retail drinking water service line is the pipe that extends between the main water pipe in the road and the home or business. Drinking water meters are typically located in the park strip area or just behind the sidewalk. Lindon City is responsible for the water line on the street side up to and including the meter. The property owner is responsible for the line between the meter and the home or business.

The secondary retail water line is the pipe that extends between the stop-and-waste valve located in the park strip area and the sprinkler system or hose connection. Some residences will have a secondary meter in place of the stop-and-waste valve. Lindon City is responsible for the line on the street side, up to and including stop-and-waste valve or secondary meter. The property owner is responsible for the line from the stop-and-waste valve or secondary meter into the property.
