What is Stalking?

The term “stalking” means engaging in a course of conduct directed at a specific person that would cause a reasonable person to fear for his or her safety or the safety of others or suffer substantial emotional distress.

What is Dating Violence?

Dating and relationship violence is a pattern of coercive and abusive tactics employed by one person in a relationship to gain power and control over another person. It can take many forms, including physical violence, coercion, threats, intimidation, isolation, and emotional, sexual or economic abuse. The Refuge Utah

The Refuge Utah offers a variety of victim resources including an emergency shelter for individuals fleeing domestic violence, support classes, after-care programs, sexual assault therapy, and hospital response advocates.

VINE is Utah's victim notification system. It provides information regarding the custody status of offenders in Utah prisons and jails.

Stalking Injunctions

Stalking Injunctions are issued by the court designed to provide protection to victims of stalking by preventing the suspect from having contact with the victim in any way.

An ex parte civil stalking injunction can be filed by the victim against an alleged stalker within the district court the victim resides in. The stalking injunction can prevent the stalker from getting near the victim as well as going to or near certain places such as the victim's home or place of work.
A permanent civil stalking injunction is served to an individual who is convicted of stalking. The injunction is served at the time of conviction. The injunction protects the victim by restraining the offender from entering the residence, property, school or place of employment of the victim. The offender is required to stay away from the victim at all times.
